Punjab’s government higher secondary schools have recorded a sharp 90 percent drop in admissions after matric, revealing a major challenge for the province’s education system.
According to the report, a large number of students are now choosing colleges and other institutions instead of government higher secondary schools after completing matriculation.
The data shows that only 56,000 students enrolled in class 11 at government higher secondary schools this year, even though more than 600,000 students were studying in class 10 across government schools in the province.
The report said more than 550,000 students opted for admission to different colleges, which led to a significant decline in the enrollment rate of government higher secondary schools.
