The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has prescribed technical testing and compliance standards for 5G devices and base stations under the Telecommunication Equipment Standards Regulations, 2024.
Under the regulations, 5G New Radio devices will be tested for radio-frequency transmission and reception, as well as compliance with relevant protocol requirements. The standards are designed to determine whether equipment meets the required technical specifications before being used in Pakistan’s telecommunications networks.
The framework includes international standards for 5G user equipment, covering requirements related to radio performance, spectrum access, and electromagnetic compatibility. It also sets separate radio-conformance testing requirements for 5G New Radio base stations.
The regulations also cover earlier generations of mobile technology, including 2G, 3G and 4G devices and network equipment. Technology-specific standards have been prescribed for GSM, UMTS, LTE and CDMA2000 mobile devices and base stations.
The requirements apply to PTA licensees, manufacturers and importers of telecommunication equipment.
Relevant test reports issued by accredited laboratories must be submitted when applying to the PTA for a Certificate of Compliance.
