The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not yet received any formal instructions to suspend or downgrade mobile and internet services in Rawalpindi or Attock, officials told ProPakistani.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has also confirmed that the Ministry of Interior has not issued any direction to PTA for suspending or downgrading telecom services.
PTA officials said the authority will take action only after receiving formal instructions from the competent federal authorities. A request from the Punjab government does not, by itself, constitute a final order to suspend telecommunications services.
The Punjab Home Department had requested the Ministry of Interior to suspend 2G, 3G and 4G services at specified locations in Rawalpindi on September 27, starting at 9:00 am.
The requested locations include the route from Barahma Bhatar to the M-1, Gango, Ahata, Taxila City, Wah Saddar, Thallian and Chakri. The provincial government said timings for other specified locations in Rawalpindi would be communicated separately.
Punjab also requested that mobile and internet services across Attock district be downgraded from September 27 onwards.
The request, dated September 21, was forwarded following a communication from the Central Police Office, Punjab, which cited the expected law-and-order situation.
As of September 23, however, no final decision has been taken on suspending or downgrading mobile and internet services in the Rawalpindi region on September 27.
