PPL Issues Islamabad Relocation Order to Staff

PPL employees have urged the company’s board and management to reconsider moving its Karachi office to Islamabad, warning that the move could increase costs and affect employees and their families.

Sources told ProPakistani that PPL has issued relocation letters to 50 employees, directing them to report to Islamabad on October 25, 2026.

ProPakistani previously reported on PPL’s plan to move to Islamabad. The latest letter reflects employees’ concerns about the relocation, which is now officially confirmed.

PPL employees and their families called for the decision to be reviewed and proposed consulting staff before proceeding.

PPL’s Karachi office had around 500 employees as of October 1, 2026, compared with approximately 80 in Islamabad. The Karachi staff warned that relocating the larger office was not the most practical option and suggested considering alternatives, including retaining offices in both cities and adopting an online coordination system to manage staff in both cities.

The employees are not happy about the potential financial implications of the relocation. The Karachi office’s monthly rent is around Rs. 4 million, while the proposed Islamabad office would cost Rs. 50 million per month.

Sources said relocation expenses would be Rs. 2-3 million per employee for both the company and employees that puts the combined cost at approximately Rs. 4 billion.

Separately, the estimated furniture and office equipment procurement or relocation costs could cross Rs. 1 billion.

The employees asked the board and management to conduct a transparent staff survey to determine how many employees were willing to relocate to Islamabad.

They also requested that employees at different management levels be consulted before a final decision is implemented.
