PM Shehbaz Takes Notice of Islamic University Student Suicide Case

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the death of Laiba Ejaz, a 22-year-old student of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), and ordered immediate action against those allegedly involved in defrauding her.

The prime minister described the incident as deeply regrettable and directed the Inspector General of Islamabad Police and the Chief Commissioner Islamabad to ensure that the accused is taken into custody without delay.

Laiba’s body was recovered from a green belt in Islamabad’s G-10 area, within the jurisdiction of Ramna Police Station. Police said initial circumstances suggested a possible suicide, but investigators have not yet announced a final conclusion regarding her death.

Her family has alleged that an education consultant took millions of rupees after promising to arrange her admission to a US university and later provided documents that turned out to be fake.

Different reports have put the alleged amount at between Rs. 5 million and Rs. 7 million, while the exact figure and the consultant’s role remain under investigation.

Family members said Laiba had completed her studies at IIUI with strong academic results and hoped to pursue higher education abroad. They also alleged that the family had arranged the money through the sale of property and other financial sacrifices.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has also taken notice of the alleged fraud and contacted Laiba’s family as part of its inquiry.

Prime Minister Shehbaz directed authorities to arrest the accused promptly and ensure that anyone found responsible is punished strictly in accordance with the law.

The alleged fraud, its exact financial details and any connection between it and Laiba’s death are still being investigated.
