PM Shehbaz Issues Final Warning Ahead of Islamabad Protest
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Sunday’s emergency cabinet meeting warned that the “unholy/ناپاک” plan to march on Islamabad is an act of betrayal and will plunge Pakistan back into chaos.
He questioned why political opponents would seek renewed unrest despite improvements in the country’s economic and diplomatic position. He said this protest is the worst crime against Pakistan.
He also commended the government’s response to the oil crisis and said more than 10 million people had benefited from its fuel subsidy initiative.
Prime Minister said public incomes have increased, fiscal discipline improved and the State Bank of Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves have reached a record high.
Questioning the purpose of the long march, the prime minister asked whether its organizers wanted to push Pakistan towards instability and economic damage again. He called the protest an act against the country’s interests.
Shehbaz also warned the political leadership behind the proposed march, saying it had been given opportunities to govern and had remained in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for 13 years.
