PM Doesn’t Listen to Me: Investment Minister

Federal Investment Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh has said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is too busy to listen to his concerns but still hopes to meet him soon.

Speaking to journalists at the Karachi Press Club, the minister said Karachi is Pakistan’s economic hub but does not have a corresponding position in national politics. He called for greater political importance for the city.

The minister said Pakistan needs to focus on exports to achieve stronger economic growth. He also praised the prime minister and Field Marshal Asim Munir for doing effective diplomatic work.

He said the private sector must now play its role by increasing exports and attracting investment. The Board of Investment is also working to reduce unnecessary regulations, he added.

The minister criticized the way the 18th Amendment is being implemented, saying provincial governments are misusing its provisions. He said similar issues were being seen in both Sindh and Punjab.

The minister also warned that continued political issues would make it difficult to improve the country’s economic situation.
