Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily suspended flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, citing the security situation in the Middle East, a spokesperson said on Friday.
The suspension comes amid escalating fighting involving Saudi forces and Yemen’s Houthi militia, which has carried out regular drone and ballistic missile attacks targeting Riyadh and other airports in Saudi Arabia.
PIA has advised passengers to contact its call center to confirm their flight status before leaving for the airport. Flight disruptions have also affected Riyadh Airport.
According to Flightradar24, airlines canceled 104 arriving and departing flights on Friday and delayed another 154. The website recorded 335 cancellations on Thursday.
Several other airlines have also suspended flights to Riyadh amid the regional tensions. Lufthansa Group and three Indian carriers announced flight suspensions on Thursday. A Lufthansa spokesperson told Reuters that the group’s airlines would suspend flights to the Saudi capital until October 16 because of “current developments in the Middle East.”
India’s largest airline, IndiGo, canceled all flights to and from Riyadh through October 9. Air India and Akasa Air also told Reuters that they had canceled flights to and from the Saudi capital through October 10.
