Peshawar is set to get a new underpass after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi performed the groundbreaking of the Jameel Chowk Underpass.
The project is being developed under the Peshawar Revitalization Plan and has been given a completion deadline of 90 days.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the chief minister promised that work on the underpass would be completed ahead of the stipulated deadline.
Afridi said several development schemes launched under the Peshawar Revitalization Plan were progressing rapidly, with a number of projects already completed or nearing completion.
He said the provincial government was committed to completing development projects within the assigned timeframe so that the public could benefit from them as soon as possible.
According to the chief minister, development projects worth around Rs. 200 billion are currently under way in Peshawar under the revitalization plan.
Afridi praised Provincial Minister for Local Government Mina Khan and officials of the Local Government Department for monitoring the projects and following up on their implementation.
The chief minister said the current year had been declared a year of development, construction and prosperity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He also claimed that the province exceeded its Rs129 billion revenue target for the 2025-26 financial year by collecting more than Rs. 150 billion. The provincial government has set a revenue target of Rs. 180 billion for the current financial year and aims to eventually raise collections to Rs. 200 billion.
