Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have arrested a school owner in Peshawar’s Dir Colony over alleged construction defects, as a criminal case brings earlier complaints about the building’s safety under scrutiny.
An investigation officer confirmed that Khan Muhammad was taken into custody over the alleged use of poor-quality building materials. The school’s owners, shareholders and construction contractor have been named in the FIR, with police seeking the remaining suspects.
The case was lodged on behalf of the state at Agha Mir Jani Shah police station under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with deaths caused without an intention to kill.
According to the FIR, management failed to act on complaints about deteriorating walls and roofs. Children had also expressed concerns about the premises, which the report describes as dilapidated and unsuitable for a school.
The FIR states that the building was constructed after a 16-marla property belonging to Waheed and Javed was leased in 2024.
Khan Muhammad had earlier blamed several days of rainfall for the collapse. Investigators are examining allegations concerning construction quality and the failure to address reported safety problems.
Thirty children and a female teacher died when roofs collapsed during classes on 15 October, 2026, while 52 people were injured. Relatives of the victims have demanded a thorough investigation and accountability.
