Ali Sethi and Shae Gill’s global hit “Pasoori” has made history by becoming the first Pakistan-made music video to surpass 1 billion views on YouTube.
Coke Studio announced the milestone on Sunday, thanking fans around the world for listening to the song, singing along and helping turn it into a global phenomenon.
Released on February 7, 2022, “Pasoori” reached the billion-view mark in less than four years and seven months, making it one of the most successful Pakistani songs of the modern era.
The song quickly became a worldwide sensation, topping streaming charts and attracting listeners far beyond Pakistan. It was Spotify’s most-streamed Pakistani song in 2022 and remains the most-streamed track for both Sethi and Gill, with nearly 405 million streams.
To mark the achievement, Coke Studio shared a video featuring Sethi, Gill and producers Zulfiqar Khan, better known as Xulfi, and Abdullah Siddiqui.
The song’s international popularity has also led to numerous covers and performances. It featured on the soundtrack of Disney’s Ms. Marvel, which prominently showcased Pakistani culture.
Coke Studio Africa later released a remix featuring Sethi alongside Nigerian artists Marwan Moussa and Reekado Banks, blending the song with Afrobeats.
“Pasoori” also gained attention in India after Bollywood singer Arijit Singh performed his own version, sparking debate among fans over the adaptation of the Pakistani hit.
