Pakistan’s Anser Abbas has qualified for the men’s long jump final at the Asian Games after recording a 7.28-meter jump in the qualification round in Nagoya on Sunday.
Competing at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, Abbas secured his place among the 12 finalists. His effort was officially listed as a personal best, although sources noted that he has recorded longer distances in domestic competitions.
Abbas previously jumped 7.69 meters at the Karachi National Games and 7.55 meters at the National Championship. A source explained that these domestic performances were not included in the international record and that 7.28 meters is considered his personal best on the international circuit.
Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov topped the qualification with an 8.00-meter jump, while India’s Murali Sreeshankar finished second with 7.84 meters. Japan’s Yuki Hashioka secured third place with a 7.74-meter effort.
Hong Kong’s Wong Pak Hang also recorded 7.28 meters but finished 13th and missed out on qualification.
The men’s long jump final will be held on Monday, with Abbas now set to compete for a place on the podium.
