Prof. Dr. Hina Siddiqui, a Pakistani scientist and Professor of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), United Kingdom.
Prof. Siddiqui is associated with the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi. The fellowship recognizes her sustained contributions to the advancement of chemical sciences.
She earned her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Karachi under the supervision of renowned scientist Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary and later progressed through different research and academic positions at ICCBS.
She also received advanced research training at the University of Kansas in the United States and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Tübingen in Germany.
Prof. Siddiqui has published more than 70 research papers in international journals. She also holds a granted US patent and several local patents, and has authored a book and several book chapters.
Her research focuses on the design and development of new anti-infectious agents, including antibacterial, antiprotozoal, and antiviral compounds, as well as inhibitors of clinically important enzymes. Her work also involves expanding chemical space through the development of new small molecular libraries.
Alongside her research, Prof. Siddiqui has supervised more than 35 M.Phil. and Ph.D. students in medicinal chemistry, including students from African and Asian countries. Her academic supervision has contributed to the training of young scientists, research capacity building, and international scientific collaboration.
She has also received several competitive research grants at the national and international levels and has delivered more than 70 lectures, including plenary and invited talks, at workshops, symposia and conferences in Pakistan and abroad.
Prof. Siddiqui also serves as an Adjunct Professor at different national and international universities. In addition, she is an OIC-COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar, contributing to scientific knowledge exchange and capacity building among researchers from OIC member states.
Her election as an FRSC marks another international recognition of her contributions to chemistry and highlights her position among Pakistan’s leading researchers and academics.
