Pakistani Engineer Missing After Fire on Ship Near Oman
A Pakistani engineer from Karachi remains missing after a mysterious fire broke out on the ship Al Kya near Oman’s port.
According to the family, Hammad Obaidah was serving as a third engineer on the vessel and left Karachi for duty on September 6.
The family said the fire was reported on September 13 and damaged the ship’s engine room and other sections. The vessel had 25 crew members on board at the time of the incident, and rescuers saved 23 of them.
His family said Obaidah was on night duty in the engine room when the fire erupted. Crew members later said the chances of survival for those inside the engine room were extremely low.
So far, no one has confirmed whether Obaidah survived or died in the incident.
The family said it contacted the Foreign Office and the Maritime Security Agency’s crisis management cell, but officials have not yet traced him. It added that two days after the incident, authorities still have no confirmed information about his whereabouts.
Obaidah’s family has urged the Pakistani government and relevant institutions to coordinate with Omani authorities and help locate him. They also said that if he died in the fire, officials should recover his body and provide immediate assistance.
