Muhammad Ahmed Khan has become the first Pakistani to receive the 2026 World Deaf Leadership Scholarship, securing admission to the MA Deaf Studies program at Gallaudet University for the Fall 2026 semester.
Khan, who is Deaf and was born to Deaf parents, said financial difficulties prevented him from continuing his education after completing matriculation in 2006.
Instead, he entered the workforce and later worked at BankIslami. He also served as Secretary of the Pakistan Association of Deaf Youth and Students (PADYS), where he worked for the development and empowerment of Deaf youth.
Through the World Deaf Leadership Scholarship, Khan will now pursue higher education at Gallaudet University, a leading institution for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
He said his goal is to bring the knowledge and opportunities gained through his studies back to Pakistan and create better educational and professional opportunities for Deaf youth.
Khan described the achievement as being for Deaf young people across Pakistan, saying it would show them that more opportunities are possible and that his achievement can pave the way for others to follow.
