Pakistan’s veteran shooter Ghulam Mustafa Bashir won a bronze medal in the men’s 25-meter rapid-fire pistol event at the Asian Games in Nagoya, securing the country’s first shooting medal of the Games.
Bashir finished third with a score of 22 after a composed performance in the eight-man final at the Aichi Prefecture General Shooting Gallery.
It was Bashir’s first Asian Games medal and Pakistan’s second medal in the event’s history. Kishmala Talat had won bronze at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou.
South Korea’s Lee Gunhyeok claimed gold with a score of 32 after defeating China’s Su Lianbofan in a shoot-off. Su also finished on 32 but settled for silver following the tie-break.
Vietnam’s Pham Quang Huy finished fourth with 20 points, while Indonesia’s Suteja Dewa Putu Yadi placed fifth with 18.
South Korea’s Yoon Seoyeong finished sixth with 12, followed by India’s Anish with 11 and Kazakhstan’s Nikita Chiryukin with seven.
Bashir had qualified for the final after finishing sixth overall with 578 points and 19 inner tens across the two qualification stages, securing one of the eight available places.
He had finished eighth in the first stage before improving his position in the second stage to reach the final.
China and South Korea dominated the top positions, but Bashir held his nerve through the rapid-fire series to secure third place and a spot on the podium.
Lee’s winning score of 32 also equaled the Asian record in the final.
