The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) has reviewed and recommended a new mechanism to improve the development, quality assurance, and printing of textbooks through the National Book Foundation.
The recently notified Lead Committee on Textbook Development, chaired by Education Secretary Nadeem Mahbub, discussed a roadmap for preparing high-quality, learner-centered textbooks for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) to Grade V.
The textbooks will be aligned with the New National Curriculum of Pakistan (NNCP) and are expected to be introduced for primary classes from Academic Session 2027.
According to officials, the proposed mechanism includes inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from publishers and introducing transparent and rigorous criteria for textbook selection.
It also calls for stronger quality assurance and review processes, along with training and capacity building for textbook authors and reviewers.
The ministry plans to focus on child-friendly, engaging, and age-appropriate learning materials that strengthen competencies, conceptual understanding, and the practical application of knowledge.
The textbooks will also aim to promote critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and inclusive learning.
Officials said the initiative is intended to translate curriculum reforms into meaningful classroom learning, stressing that quality curricula and textbooks are essential for improving the overall standard of education.
