Allama Hisham Elahi Zaheer on Saturday said a large number of Pakistani youth would be ready to stand on the front lines to defend Saudi Arabia and the Two Holy Mosques if Riyadh needs support.
In a statement shared on social media, Hisham Elahi said Pakistani youth would remain ready to protect the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques whenever their services are required.
The statement reflects Hisham Elahi’s position and does not represent the federal government or Armed Forces of Pakistan.
His comments come due to latest tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Ansar Allah (also known as Houthis).
Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Religious Harmony Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi recently said Pakistan fully supports Saudi Arabia and the security of the Two Holy Mosques.
Ashrafi had described the security of the holy sites as a red line and said Pakistan’s government, armed forces, religious scholars and people stood alongside Saudi Arabia.
He also called Houthis terrorists and rejected the framing of the skirmish as a Sunni-Shia war.
Separately, Pakistan has publicly committed to defending Saudi Arabia under the new Mecca Joint Defense Agreement.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has time and again repeated that members of the defense pact, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, will act accordingly.
