Pakistan Looks To Japanese Business Giant For Mining Investment

The Special Investment Facilitation Council has engaged Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s mining and minerals sector, including emerging projects with significant investment potential.

The engagement is part of SIFC’s efforts to connect international investors with strategic economic sectors and facilitate their participation in commercially viable projects. The council is providing prospective investors with information on identified opportunities, relevant projects and the investment environment through its investment facilitation mechanism.

Sumitomo Corporation is a Japanese trading and investment conglomerate headquartered in Tokyo. Its engagement with SIFC is expected to provide an opportunity to explore Pakistan’s mineral resources and potential projects across the sector.

Pakistan’s mining and minerals sector offers opportunities in exploration, resource development, value addition and downstream industrial activity. SIFC is seeking greater participation from international investors to develop these areas and expand investment in the sector.

The council said strengthened investment facilitation, dedicated security arrangements and an emphasis on policy continuity were aimed at creating a more predictable environment for international businesses considering investment in Pakistan.

SIFC said its engagement with Sumitomo Corporation reflected international interest in Pakistan’s resource potential and highlighted the council’s role in facilitating investment and helping convert identified opportunities into commercially sustainable projects.
