Former Pakistan captain and experienced midfielder Ammad Shakeel Butt added another milestone to his career as he completed 200 international matches for the country.
Ammad Butt, who made his senior international debut in 2013, reached the milestone during Pakistan’s Pool B match against China in the Asian Games 2026 men’s field hockey competition at Kawasaki Juko Stadium.
Although Butt did not score in his landmark appearance, Pakistan secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over China. Captain Abubakar Mahmood, Hannan Shahid and Sufyan Khan scored one goal each, with all three goals coming during an action-packed second quarter.
Speaking after the match, Butt reflected on completing 200 international appearances for Pakistan and credited his fans, family and the entire nation for supporting him throughout his journey.
“Today I played my 200th international match, and I have received a lot of support from my fans, my family and the whole nation,” Butt said during the post-match presentation.
The midfielder also praised Pakistan’s performance against China, particularly the team’s “combined structure.” However, he stressed that the upcoming match against Pool B leaders Malaysia would be even more important as Pakistan looks to secure a place in the semifinals.
“I believe my team played well against China today. We played with a very good combined structure,” Butt said.
“The upcoming match is even more important than this. I hope that we will defeat Malaysia and qualify for the Asian Games semi-final,” he added.
Ammad Butt also emphasized that Pakistan’s main objective is to win the Asian Games 2026 gold medal and secure qualification for the Los Angeles Olympics 2028.
“Our main focus is to win the Asian Games final and qualify for the LA 2028 Olympics.”
