Pakistan Fish Exports Jump 75%

Pakistan’s fish and seafood exports rose to $125.4 million in the first quarter of FY2026-27, up from $93.28 million in the same period last year, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said.

Seafood export volumes also increased substantially, rising from 35,294 metric tons in the first quarter of FY2024-25 to 43,995 metric tons in the first quarter of FY2025-26 and 61,679 metric tons in the first quarter of FY2026-27.

This represents a 74.8 percent increase in export volume over three years, with export earnings also rising alongside the increase in volume.

The increase in export earnings highlights the growing economic potential of Pakistan’s marine fisheries sector as the country seeks to expand its blue economy, the minister said in a statement.

Chaudhry said the fisheries sector remains an important part of Pakistan’s coastal economy, providing livelihoods to fishing communities while generating foreign exchange through exports of fish and other marine products.

He also highlighted the Marine Fisheries Department’s record export earnings of $568 million in FY2025-26 and the opening of new international markets, particularly Russia, for Pakistani fisheries products.

The minister said recent efforts to resume shrimp exports to the United States and revive the fishing licensing regime in Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone would help promote sustainable use of marine fisheries resources.

He stressed the need to address institutional, technical and capacity-related bottlenecks to increase fish and seafood exports to major international markets, particularly the European Union.

Chaudhry also called for the revival of the Fisheries Training Centre of the Marine Fisheries Department to strengthen human-resource capacity, improve technical standards and enhance compliance with international fisheries and seafood safety requirements.
