Pakistan Eyes Bigger Share of Global Flexible Packaging Export Market

Pakistan is looking to secure a bigger share of the global flexible packaging export market as local manufacturers introduce a wider range of specialized packaging films.

The shift comes as demand grows for films offering stronger barrier protection, recyclability and improved material efficiency.

Newer products are increasingly focused on specialized applications, recyclable materials and higher-performance packaging. Opportunities for local manufacturers to serve more technically demanding packaging requirements could rise soon.

The International Packaging Films Limited (PSX: IPAK) has unveiled a new range of advanced packaging films aimed at higher-value domestic and export applications.

IPAK unveiled its latest portfolio at 3P Plas Print Pack Pakistan 2026 at the Expo Centre Lahore from September 3 to 5.

The new products include coated films, AlOx transparent barrier films, ultra-high-barrier metallized films, low-temperature sealing films, aroma-barrier films, high-heat-resistant and retortable films, next-generation BOPE, functional-oriented films and circular packaging solutions.

The portfolio also includes Mono-PE, Mono-PP, Mono-PET and post-consumer recycled (PCR) films, targeting growing demand for recyclable and more material-efficient packaging.

These products are designed for food, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and other consumer industries, with a focus on improving product shelf life, barrier protection, recyclability and packaging efficiency.

The expansion into specialized films could help Pakistan move beyond conventional packaging products and compete in higher-value segments of the international market.

Advanced barrier and functional films can also support export diversification by enabling local manufacturers to supply more technically demanding packaging products to overseas customers.

The development could have an additional impact on the domestic market by reducing dependence on imported specialised packaging materials and supporting import substitution.

At the exhibition, IPAK is engaging with packaging converters, FMCG manufacturers, exporters and international buyers as it seeks to expand its customer base and develop new export opportunities.

The company is looking at the growing role of advanced manufacturing, sustainable materials and value-added products in Pakistan’s efforts to expand non-traditional exports and generate foreign exchange.
