Pakistan women’s team captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 percent of her match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during Saturday’s Women’s Asia Cup Group A match against India.
Fatima was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The article relates to the use of language, actions, or gestures that disparage a batter or could provoke an aggressive reaction following a dismissal.
In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to Fatima’s disciplinary record. This was her second offense within a 24-month period, taking her total to two demerit points during that time.
Her previous demerit point was issued following a T20I against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.
The latest incident occurred after Fatima dismissed India opener Shafali Verma, who had made an aggressive start while chasing Pakistan’s modest total.
Shafali was dismissed on her sixth delivery after chipping a catch back toward the bowler. After completing the catch, Fatima gestured toward the pavilion.
India’s bowlers had earlier dominated the match, dismissing Pakistan for just 55. Fatima responded with the ball by taking three wickets, but India went on to secure a seven-wicket victory.
Fatima admitted the offense and accepted the sanctions proposed by Supriya Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, there was no need for a formal hearing.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
Despite the heavy defeat against India, Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the semifinals remain alive. The Green Shirts will face Hong Kong, China, in their next Group A match today, with a victory enough to secure their place in the last four.
