Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 37 runs in the opening match of the ODI tri-nation series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with Salman Ali Agha’s century and Shaheen Afridi’s three-wicket haul leading the hosts to victory.
Chasing a target of 306, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 268 in 48.1 overs despite fighting half-centuries from Pavan Rathnayake and Janith Liyanage.
Shaheen led Pakistan’s bowling attack with figures of 3/55 in 10 overs, while Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Faheem Ashraf picked up two wickets each.
Earlier, Pakistan recovered from a difficult start to post 305, thanks to Salman’s 107 off 90 balls, which included 10 fours and a six.
Openers Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub put together 23 runs before Dilshan Madushanka dismissed Saim for seven in the fourth over. Madushanka struck again in the sixth over, removing Fakhar for 16 and leaving Pakistan struggling at 32-2.
