The Sindh Education Department’s Monitoring Wing has declared 6,220 school buildings across the province dilapidated and unsafe, prompting authorities to order students to be shifted to safer premises during the monsoon season.
According to a directive issued by the Education Department, students enrolled in schools operating in dangerous and structurally vulnerable buildings will be relocated to nearby schools as a precautionary measure.
Lists of dangerous and partially dilapidated school buildings in all 30 districts of Sindh have been provided to the respective deputy commissioners. Authorities have been directed to make alternative arrangements in consultation with the deputy commissioners and vacate buildings considered unsafe for students and staff.
Officials have also been instructed to ensure that academic activities continue at alternative locations while unsafe school buildings remain unoccupied during the monsoon period.
According to available details, Badin, Mirpurkhas and Tharparkar have a comparatively high number of schools identified as dangerous.
Deputy commissioners in the affected districts have started looking for suitable alternative schools and premises in consultation with Education Department officials to accommodate displaced students.
The decision comes amid concerns that monsoon rains could further weaken already deteriorating structures, posing a serious risk to the lives of students, teachers and other school staff.
