More than 160,000 online applications have been received for intermediate admissions in 800 public colleges across Punjab through the Online College Admissions System (OCAS), reflecting growing adoption of digital platforms for accessing education across the province.
Developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) in collaboration with the Punjab Higher Education Department (PHED), OCAS enables students to apply online for admission to selected public colleges from the convenience of their homes, eliminating the need for repeated visits to colleges and lengthy manual admission procedures.
According to the latest data available through the portal, more than 160,000 applications have been submitted for intermediate admissions across Punjab. It has also been noted that over 109,000, approximately 68% of the total applicants were females while male students have submitted 51,632 applications, representing around 32%.
This means that nearly two out of every three applicants using OCAS are female students, highlighting the growing demand among young women for higher secondary education as well as their strong uptake of digital admission facilities. Programme-wise data shows that FA (Humanities/Arts) and ICS (General Science) are currently the most popular intermediate programmes among applicants.
FA has received 57,096 applications, while ICS has received 54,018 applications. Together, the two programmes account for approximately 69% of all applications received through the system. FSc (Pre-Medical) ranks third, with 28,780 applications. Female participation is particularly prominent in the most sought-after programmes. Women constitute approximately 81% of applicants in Pre-Medical, followed by 74% in FA and 61% in ICS, demonstrating a strong preference among female students for these academic streams.
The data also highlights varying gender participation across technical and commercial programmes. FA-IT has received 7,337 applications, with female students accounting for approximately 65% of applicants. In programmes such as DIT and D.Com, male participation is comparatively higher. Meanwhile, comparatively lower application volumes have been recorded in specialised programmes including Home Economics, Medical Laboratory Technology, Dental Hygiene Technology and Physiotherapy Technology.
In this regard, PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf said that OCAS has provided students with a convenient and transparent alternative to the traditional manual admission process.
He said that the Online College Admissions System has helped students avoid lengthy queues and unnecessary visits to college offices by enabling them to submit their applications digitally. He added that the system is not only simplifying the admission process but is also generating valuable, real-time data on educational preferences and enrolment trends across Punjab.
Chairman Faisal Yousaf remarked, “Such data can play an important role in supporting evidence-based decision-making and helping the government formulate future education and economic policies in line with emerging trends and the needs of students.”
Students seeking admission to public colleges can submit their applications through the Online College Admissions System at www.ocas.punjab.gov.pk.
The system has also been integrated with PayZen, enabling applicants to pay college admission fees through multiple convenient and secure channels, including Mobile Banking, ATMs, Debit and Credit Cards, TCS Offices and branchless banking services. The integration facilitates digital fee payments while promoting greater convenience, transparency and efficiency throughout the college admission process.
The continued growth in applications through OCAS underscores the increasing role of digital public services in making education-related processes more accessible, efficient and student-friendly across Punjab.
