OPPO A7 Pro Costs the Same as Pro Max, But Loses More

OPPO has officially launched the A7 Pro in China, adding a new mid-range model to its A7 series.

Oddly enough, the Oppo A7 Pro has the same price tag as the A7 Pro Max, despite downgrades across the board compared to the higher-tier model.

Compared to the A7 Pro Max, the A7 Pro has a smaller battery, slower storage type, lower brightness on a smaller display, a downgraded front camera, slower charging, and a less efficient chipset.

Design and Display

The A7 Pro measures 159.08 x 75.81 x 8.8mm and weighs 205 grams. It has a flat 6.57-inch OLED display with a 2372 x 1080-pixel resolution.

The screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate, while its peak brightness reaches 1,400 nits. It also supports a 240Hz touch sampling rate and 10-bit color depth.

OPPO has given the phone IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for protection against dust and water under the respective testing standards. The company also says the phone uses a durability-focused internal structure.

Internals and Software

The OPPO A7 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6360 Max chipset with an octa-core CPU clocked at up to 2.4GHz.

It comes with either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, while both configurations offer 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The phone also supports expandable storage and USB OTG.

The device runs ColorOS 16. Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB Type-C. The Chinese model also supports NFC.

Cameras

The A7 Pro has a 50MP main rear camera with an f/1.9 aperture and autofocus. It supports up to 10x digital zoom.

The rear camera can record video at up to 1080p at 60fps and supports 1080p video stabilization. It can also record 720p slow-motion video at 120fps.

For selfies, the phone has an 8MP front camera with an f/2.1 aperture. It supports 1080p video recording at 30fps.

Battery and Pricing

The biggest feature of the A7 Pro is its 8,000mAh battery. OPPO lists a rated capacity of 7,820mAh and a typical capacity of 8,000mAh.

The phone supports 45W SuperVOOC charging, along with 45W UFCS charging. It is also compatible with 45W PPS and 13.5W PD charging.

OPPO says the battery is designed to retain at least 80% of its capacity after 2,000 full charge cycles under its specified testing conditions.

The OPPO A7 Pro starts at $327 for the 6GB RAM and 256GB storage model. The 8GB + 256GB version costs around $372 in China.
