Only 7% Students from Govt Schools Got Admission in Karachi’s Top 10 Colleges

A majority of students admitted to Karachi’s top 10 government colleges have completed their matriculation from private schools.

According to admission data obtained from the colleges, 13,211 students were admitted to the 10 institutions. Of these, 12,264 students, or 92.8%, came from private schools, while only 947 students, or 7.2%, were graduates of government schools.

The figures show that for every 100 students admitted to these leading government colleges, around 93 studied at private schools and only seven came from government schools.

The trend was particularly visible at several major boys’ colleges. At Adamjee Government Science College, 585 of 613 admitted students came from private schools, while only 28 were from government schools.

Similarly, Government D.J. Sindh Science College admitted 1,258 students, including 1,214 private-school graduates and just 44 government-school graduates.

At Delhi Government Science College, 773 of 801 students came from private schools, compared with only 28 from government schools. Government Boys College Nazimabad recorded 1,257 private-school graduates among 1,317 admissions, while only 60 students came from government schools.

The same pattern was recorded at leading government girls’ colleges.

Government Sir Syed Girls College admitted 2,507 students, of whom 2,266 had studied at private schools and only 241 at government schools.

At St Lawrence Government Girls College, 631 of 691 students were private-school graduates, compared with 60 from government schools.

Meanwhile, PECHS Government College for Women admitted 1,517 students, including 1,420 private-school graduates and only 97 government-school graduates.

At Khatun-e-Pakistan Government College for Women, 1,876 of the 2,107 admitted students came from private schools, while only 231 were government-school graduates.

The figures from Government Degree College Malir Cantt and Government Degree Boys and Girls College Stadium Road also showed a similar gap.
