OnePlus is positioning the upcoming OnePlus 16 as a gaming-focused flagship, with new networking hardware designed to reduce latency and maintain a more stable connection during competitive play.
OnePlus China President Li Jie says the phone will deliver low-latency gaming performance through a combination of a dedicated network chip and a redesigned antenna system.
The OnePlus 16 is scheduled to launch on October 12 at 7:00 PM China time, which translates to 4:00 PM Pakistan time.
Dedicated G3 E-Sports Network Chip
The OnePlus 16 will debut the company’s self-developed G3 e-sports network chip.
According to OnePlus, the chip is designed specifically for gaming scenarios where network instability can quickly affect multiplayer performance.
The company says it can reduce latency across different conditions, including situations where a player’s grip partially blocks the antenna area.
Anti-Interference Antenna for Gaming
OnePlus is pairing the G3 chip with what it calls an anti-interference e-sports antenna.
The company claims the antenna can maintain a more stable connection even when users hold the phone tightly during gameplay.
A 360-degree surround antenna design is also included to improve signal reliability in congested environments such as cafés, dormitories, and subway systems.
The focus here is not just peak network speed, but consistency, which is more important in competitive games where sudden latency spikes can affect reaction time.
High-Refresh-Rate Display
Leaks suggest the OnePlus 16 will feature a 6.78-inch 1.5K BOE X4 flat display.
The panel is expected to support refresh rates of up to 185Hz, while the system will reportedly support a 165Hz ultra-high refresh rate more broadly.
The display is also tipped to use 1.15mm symmetrical bezels on all four sides.
For gaming, the combination of a high refresh rate and lower network latency should help deliver smoother input response and more consistent multiplayer performance.
Flagship Gaming Hardware
The OnePlus 16 is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme 6 chipset.
It is also tipped to feature a 9,000mAh battery, which should help with longer gaming sessions, along with 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Other expected gaming-focused hardware includes a large X-axis linear vibration motor and symmetrical dual speakers.
Cameras and Other Features
The phone is also expected to carry a high-end camera setup, including a 200MP HPE main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 50MP Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
A 50MP front camera is also rumored.
Other expected specifications include a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, USB 3.2 Gen 1, and IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K protection ratings.
