Oil and Gas Development Company Limited has signed a contract with US energy technology company Baker Hughes to increase oil and gas production from its mature fields as Pakistan seeks to raise domestic hydrocarbon output and reduce reliance on imported energy.
Under the agreement, Baker Hughes will deploy its Mature Assets Solutions to help OGDC identify additional production opportunities and address operational challenges across its ageing oil and gas wells.
The project forms part of OGDC’s broader Production Optimization Drive focused on maximizing output from its existing asset base.
The contract was signed at OGDC’s headquarters in Islamabad in the presence of Special Secretary Petroleum Mirza Nasiruddin Mashood Ahmad and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker. OGDC Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak and senior officials from both companies also attended the ceremony.
OGDC operates 18 major mature assets, including 12 oil fields and six gas and condensate fields. The company currently produces more than 40,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 815 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day, 780 metric tonnes of LPG per day and 80 metric tonnes of sulfur per day.
Baker Hughes will provide technical expertise, advanced technologies and integrated capabilities under the agreement to help OGDC improve recovery from established fields where production has naturally declined. The company said the initiative would also explore new technology applications for Pakistan’s mature oil and gas assets.
OGDC CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak said the company was working with global service providers to optimize production and strengthen Pakistan’s energy security. Special Secretary Petroleum Mirza Nasiruddin Mashood Ahmad said the partnership would support efforts to increase indigenous oil and gas production.
US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker called the agreement a milestone in the US Pakistan energy partnership, saying cooperation between OGDC and Baker Hughes could support the shared goal of strengthening Pakistan’s energy security.
The project is expected to help maximize recovery from existing fields and support Pakistan’s efforts to reduce its dependence on imported energy.
