New WhatsApp Feature Helps Declutter Your Chat List

WhatsApp is testing a new “Offers & Updates” folder that will automatically move messages from large businesses out of the main chat list.

The feature is designed to reduce clutter caused by messages from companies such as banks, airlines and delivery services. These can include discount offers, transaction alerts and delivery updates.

Business Messages Will Move Automatically

Under the test, a message from a large business will remain in the main chat list for a set period before WhatsApp moves it to the new folder.

WhatsApp is testing several time limits, with the longest delay reaching 24 hours. Users will not be able to choose their own delay before messages are moved.

The change means important updates will remain visible in the main inbox for some time before being separated from personal conversations.

Users Can Disable the Feature

WhatsApp will allow users to turn off automatic business-chat organisation through the app’s settings. Those who disable it will continue to see business conversations in their main chat list.

However, users must either accept WhatsApp’s chosen delay or disable the feature completely. The company does not currently plan to offer a custom timing option.

The test initially applies only to messages from large businesses. Personal accounts and small businesses will remain in the main chat list.

WhatsApp may consider extending the folder to messages from smaller businesses in the future, but it has not confirmed when that could happen. The feature is still being tested and is not yet available to everyone.
