New SBP Website for Business Loans Launched

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched SMEConnect, a centralized digital platform through which small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can apply for financing from banks and development finance institutions (DFIs) across the country.

The platform, available at smeconnect.sbp.org.pk, will serve as a single digital window for SME loan applications. According to the central bank, it will streamline the application process and improve accessibility, efficiency, and transparency in SME financing.

Real-Time Tracking and Rejection Reasons

Besides simplifying the loan application process, SMEConnect will let applicants track the status of their applications in real time. If an application is rejected, the applicant will also be able to see the reasons for the rejection.

The platform also has a live dashboard that will give the SBP complete visibility of SME financing applications and their status. It will provide real-time data on applications received, processed, approved, disbursed, and rejected, both at the level of individual banks and DFIs and across the industry.

Mandatory From November 1

From November 1, 2026, all SME financing applications will be received exclusively through SMEConnect. SME applicants who visit bank or DFI branches, or try to apply through their websites, will be directed to the platform.

The SBP has advised all banks and DFIs to prominently display the SMEConnect link on their websites. They have also been told to ensure that their SME teams and field staff fully understand the platform and guide applicants through it.

How to Apply for Small Business Loan

A tutorial video is available on the portal to help applicants apply for financing.

The move is the latest in the central bank’s efforts to expand credit to small businesses. Earlier, the SBP raised SME financing limits to up to Rs. 500 million and released draft prudential regulations for SME financing for public consultation.
