The National Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert over the risk of possible flooding caused by lake bursts in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.
The National Emergencies Operation Centre of the NDMA said the alert was issued due to the rising threat of glacial lake outburst floods.
According to the authority, monsoon rains and increasing temperatures have raised the chances of glacial lakes bursting in northern Pakistan.
The sensitive areas identified in the alert include Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar, Shigar, Gilgit, Rondu, Diamer, Astore, Skardu, Ghanche and Kharmang, as well as the Neelum Valley.
The alert also warned of flood conditions and landslide risks in Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla and the adjoining mountainous regions.
Koohistan and nearby hilly areas have also been placed on alert due to the possibility of flooding and landslides.
