The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has warned that Pakistan currently lacks real-time visibility of cyber threats targeting Critical Information Infrastructure across different sectors.
The agency said this creates gaps in the country’s ability to detect and respond to major cyber incidents.
In a briefing submitted to the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology, the NCCIA said monitoring of sector-specific critical infrastructure is generally carried out through Security Operations Centres established and managed by the relevant regulators and organisations.
However, the NCCIA said it does not currently have direct access to a consolidated national threat-intelligence platform or a unified threat-landscape dashboard.
Such a system would provide real-time monitoring of cyber threats across all critical sectors.
According to the agency, the lack of an integrated national mechanism for sharing cyber threat information may limit timely awareness of the cyber threat situation, early-warning capabilities and coordinated incident response at the national level.
The NCCIA recommended stronger cyber threat-intelligence sharing among regulators, Critical Information Infrastructure operators and Security Operations Centres.
It said improved coordination would significantly strengthen Pakistan’s cyber resilience and its ability to respond to major cybersecurity incidents.
