Naan Prices Increased Across Lahore

The price of plain naan in Lahore has gone up by Rs. 5, taking a single naan to Rs. 35, according to Naanbai Association President Aftab Gill.

Gill said the prices of roti and sesame-topped naan, known as khamiri or roghani naan, have not been increased. A standard roti will continue to sell for Rs. 20 in the city.

After the increase, plain naan and sesame-topped naan now cost the same, at Rs. 35 each.

Gas Load Shedding and Flour Costs Behind the Increase

Gill blamed the hike on rising costs for tandoor owners. He said gas load shedding has forced them to buy expensive LPG to keep their tandoors running.

He added that the price of fine flour (maida) has jumped by Rs. 3,000 per 80 kg sack.

The naanbais have been pushing for higher bread prices for months. In July, the association announced an increase in roti and naan prices in Lahore, while the district administration warned of action against unauthorized price hikes. Tandoor owners across Punjab also threatened to raise prices on their own amid a dispute with the Punjab Food Department over official rates.
