Mohammad Yousuf Reveals Major Reason Behind Pakistan Cricket’s Decline

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has criticized the country’s coaching setup, blaming long-standing technical issues for the national team’s continued batting struggles.

His comments came as England moved into a commanding position against Pakistan. After scoring 290 in their first innings, the hosts bowled Pakistan out for just 110. England then reached 177-7 in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 357 runs.

Reacting to Pakistan’s batting performance, Mohammad Yousuf took to social media platform X and claimed that some coaches had prevented players, including Babar Azam, from addressing technical flaws earlier in their careers.

“Few years ago I warned about this, but unfortunately some so called coaches around Babar Azam & other players didn’t allow him to work on issues that could have been easily resolved. That failure has dragged Pakistan cricket into the decline we see today,” Yousuf wrote.

The former captain went on to strongly criticize the influence of such coaches, accusing them of holding back talented players and giving them poor advice.

“These coaches are poison for the game. They lack vision, they block progress, and they misguide even the most talented players. If our cricketers don’t learn who to listen to, their careers will end far sooner than they should,” he stated.

Mohammad Yousuf also pointed to the technical shortcomings of Pakistan’s batters, saying weaknesses that could have been corrected years ago are now being exposed against international opposition in different conditions.

“The poor technique of our players has now been brutally exposed from Bangladesh to England. What could have been corrected years ago has instead become a glaring weakness, leaving Pakistan cricket vulnerable and struggling on the international stage,” Yousuf concluded.

Mohammad Yousuf remains the record holder for the most Test runs scored in a calendar year. He scored 1,788 runs in 11 Tests in 2006, including nine centuries and three fifties.
