Capital Emergency Services carried out a practical fire and rescue drill at the Prime Minister’s Office, where officials identified several safety issues during the exercise.
The mock drill revealed that the fire alarm and siren were too weak to be heard clearly. Officials also found that the electrical gate did not open in case of a power failure.
Authorities directed that emergency and manual override systems be provided and activated immediately.
During the drill, emergency teams were informed within one minute of the fire call. Rescue teams also demonstrated a quick response.
The fire alarm was received at 11:32 am, after which a fire tender from G-5 reached the Prime Minister’s Office in just four minutes.
A rescue van and a Bronto sky lift also arrived at the scene within nine minutes.
The mock fire and rescue drill was completed at 11:58 am.
Officials described the overall fire and rescue response performance of Capital Emergency Services as satisfactory.
