Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Monday launched several development projects in the SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area, with the Sindh government providing Rs. 700 million for the work.
Wahab said the authorities would complete the projects by December 15 during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by SITE-Superhighway Association of Industry President Masood Parvez, General Secretary Ehfaz Sheikh, elected councillors, relevant officials and industrialists.
Speaking to the media, the mayor said the projects would improve infrastructure and basic facilities in Karachi’s industrial zones while supporting business activity and employment.
Wahab said the Sindh government had allocated more than Rs. 9.25 billion for development projects across seven industrial zones in Karachi and transferred the funds to the respective industrial areas. The SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area received Rs. 700 million under the allocation.
He said the government had given industrialists the authority to identify and prioritize development schemes in their respective areas. Wahab described the arrangement as a unique model under which the government provides funding while industrial stakeholders decide which development projects should receive priority.
