The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is accepting applications for fully-funded research studentships for the 2027-28 academic year.
International students, including Pakistanis, can apply for funding to pursue the university’s MPhil/PhD in Demography (Social/Formal) in the United Kingdom.
According to the university, eligible applicants can compete for Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctoral Training Partnership studentships and LSE PhD Studentships.
The awards cover tuition fees and provide an annual living stipend. LSE currently lists an annual ESRC stipend of £23,805, although the final rate for the 2027-28 academic year may be revised.
International students who receive ESRC funding will also have the difference between domestic and overseas tuition fees covered by LSE.
The deadline to submit a complete application for funding consideration is January 13, 2027.
LSE Scholarship 2027
The ESRC studentship provides funding for eligible postgraduate research programs. Selected candidates receive financial support for tuition fees and living expenses throughout the approved award period.
The university has announced the following benefits: full tuition-fee coverage for eligible research programs, an annual living stipend currently listed at £23,805, and Coverage of the difference between UK and overseas tuition fees for international ESRC award holders.
The duration of funding depends on the candidate’s previous academic qualifications and research training.
Students who already possess the required research skills may receive funding primarily for doctoral research. Other candidates may receive additional research training as part of their funded program.
MPhil/PhD in Demography (Social/Formal)
The program is offered by LSE’s Department of Methodology. It focuses on population changes caused by births, deaths, migration, ageing, and changes in family structures.
Students examine social and formal demography through advanced quantitative and qualitative research methods.
The program also draws on related disciplines, including sociology, economics, geography, social policy, and public policy.
Students initially register at MPhil level. They undertake research-methods training and participate in academic seminars.
They then progress toward PhD registration after meeting the program’s academic requirements. The full-time program normally takes three to four years.
ESRC funding may also support eligible research training at Master’s level when it forms part of an approved pathway leading to a PhD.
Eligibility Criteria for LSE Fully Funded Scholarships 2027
The university accepts applications from students of different nationalities, including Pakistani applicants. However, the number of ESRC studentships available to international candidates is limited.
Applicants must satisfy the admission requirements of the MPhil/PhD in Demography program.

Applicants must also obtain at least 7.0 in Reading and Writing, and 6.5 in Listening and Speaking.
