The Lahore High Court (LHC) has barred judges who recently received vehicles from using green registration plates, blue warning lights or the judiciary’s monogram on the cars.
According to a report by 24News, Lahore Sessions Judge Tariq Khurshid Khawaja issued a notification to additional sessions judges and civil judges in Lahore regarding the use of the vehicles.
Under the instructions, the cars will be treated as private-use vehicles, and judges cannot present them as official vehicles. The notification warned that action could be taken against judges who violate the instructions by using green number plates, blue lights or the judiciary’s monogram.
24News reported that following the notification, additional sessions judges across Punjab informed judges in their respective districts about the instructions. The report said 189 cars have been provided to additional sessions judges and 400 cars to civil judges in Lahore.
According to 24News, the government will not cover the vehicles’ official maintenance costs. Judges will have to pay for maintenance themselves and will only receive the petrol allowance already included in their salaries.
