The City Traffic Officer in Lahore has directed traffic police to speed up the issuance of fines, according to an official letter.
The directive said traffic police had issued fewer fines than last year, so the pace of challaning should be increased.
The notification noted a decline in fines issued for driving without a licence, underage driving, fitness certificate violations and smoke-emitting vehicles.
CTO Lahore said wardens have been given 15 days to improve performance, after which departmental action will be taken if the target is not met.
The order has drawn attention amid public concern over traffic enforcement in the city.
According to the report, a young man died in Shadman two days ago while trying to avoid a traffic challan. It said a traffic warden attempted to stop a speeding motorcycle in the middle of the road, after which the rider hit the pavement and later died in hospital. The warden was also reported to be under treatment.
