Lahore traffic police will launch a citywide crackdown on underage drivers, motorists without licences, helmetless bikers, one-way traffic violators and motorcycles carrying three riders.
Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi has directed traffic police to issue challans and impound vehicles and motorcycles driven by underage motorists.
He said impounded motorcycles will only be released after the production of a juvenile driving permit.
The CTO said children often take motorcycles, cars and rickshaws onto roads during holidays, making underage driving a major cause of accidents.
He urged parents not to allow their children to drive cars or motorcycles.
Sherazi directed traffic police to issue fines for first-time one-way violations, while repeat offenders will face formal cases.
Action will also be taken against motorcyclists carrying three riders to improve road safety.
He said the fine for driving a car without a licence will be Rs5,000, while motorcyclists without licences will face a Rs2,000 fine and vehicle impoundment.
He clarified that driving on a learner’s permit is strictly prohibited.
The CTO also announced special checkpoints outside driving licence centres to facilitate motorcyclists seeking licences.
Circle officers have been directed to personally supervise the enforcement campaign. Sherazi said driving vehicles while underage is unacceptable and stressed strict enforcement to prevent accidents.
