Lahore has seen a surge in demand for rooftops after the Punjab government announced the dates for next year’s Basant festival, with advance bookings in parts of the city reportedly reaching hundreds of thousands of rupees.
According to a report, the announcement has increased activity in the Walled City, where residents have started searching for rooftops from which they can celebrate the festival. Some citizens have reportedly booked rooftops for large sums, while others have visited potential locations with their families.
Rooftop owners have also started repairing damaged structures as they prepare for increased demand ahead of the festival. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a 10-day Basant festival in Lahore from January 29 to February 7, 2027.
The schedule includes a one-day break on February 5 for Kashmir Day. The revised schedule replaces the three-day festival that the Punjab government had earlier planned for March 12 to 14, 2027.
Maryam Nawaz has directed relevant authorities to begin preparations well in advance and arrange stronger public safety and convenience measures for the extended celebrations. She has also urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and follow safety regulations.
