Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi has ordered a major crackdown against the top 100 vehicles with outstanding e-challan fines, directing traffic police teams to track and seized the vehicles with assistance from Safe City authorities.
The crackdown has already led to the arrest of a pickup driver who was among the top 10 e-challan defaulters. Police also registered a case against him for using a fake number plate.
According to traffic police, the driver had violated traffic laws 80 times, accumulating more than Rs. 410,000 in fines. After learning about the outstanding fines, he allegedly installed a fake number plate on the vehicle.
Police said the vehicle continued to violate traffic laws after the fake plate was installed, resulting in another Rs. 21,000 in e-challans being issued against the fake registration number.
Police arrested the driver along with the vehicle and registered a case at Nawan Kot police station. Authorities said the driver will also have to pay the outstanding fines. Shirazi said e-challan squads had received a list of the top 100 defaulter vehicles and ordered them to track the vehicles in coordination with Safe City.
Authorities have also restricted 14 police services for e-challan defaulters, including driving license services, character certificates and various verification facilities.
