The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a province-wide digital education reform plan aimed at expanding access to quality education through technology and increasing the literacy rate by up to 35 percent over the next two years.
Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi announced the decision while chairing a high-level meeting to review the proposed reforms.
The chief minister approved the launch of a digital transformation of the province’s education system and said a one-time investment of Rs. 5 billion would deliver long-term benefits. Officials said the initiative could generate annual savings of more than Rs. 100 billion.
Under the Parho Khyber Pakhtunkhwa initiative, the government will digitize the provincial curriculum and make all textbooks available through mobile phones. Students will also be able to access classes offline, allowing them to continue learning without an internet connection.
Officials informed the meeting that online teaching has already started in more than 50 schools, while 500 schools will join the virtual learning platform by the end of August.
The government will also introduce virtual science laboratories, digital language laboratories, and a unified platform for teaching, assignments, examinations, attendance, and academic monitoring. The platform will combine artificial intelligence with teacher-led instruction to provide personalized learning for students.
