The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a plan to conduct the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) through the public sector Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) from 2027.
The decision came during a meeting of the provincial cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. Information Minister Shafi Jan said the government had formed a committee to examine the technical and legal requirements for transferring the test to ETEA.
ETEA currently operates 60 registered computer-based testing centers across KP and other parts of the country, with the capacity to test up to 26,000 candidates daily.
The agency has conducted more than 1,300 computer-based tests for around 500,000 candidates since shifting to the system in September 2024. The ETEA Ordinance, 2001 also authorizes the agency to conduct admission tests for professional colleges.
The cabinet also approved the creation of a new tehsil in Charsadda district named Umarzai. It formed a committee comprising officials from the Board of Revenue, Local Government, Planning and Development and Finance departments to develop criteria for future changes to administrative units.
