KP Sells 4 Markhor Hunting Permits for Massive Amount of Money

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has auctioned four markhor trophy hunting permits for $1.21 million, approximately Rs. 335.7 million, with the highest individual bid surpassing last year’s top offer.

The auction was chaired by KP Chief Conservator Wildlife Dr. Mohsin Farooqi. Four exportable permits were offered for areas covered by village conservation committees in Chitral and Kohistan.

Chitral’s Toshi-II permit attracted the highest bid of $335,600, equivalent to approximately Rs. 92.97 million. Last year’s highest bid stood at $272,000, or around Rs. 75.35 million.

Together, the four permits generated $1,211,800 in auction proceeds. Toshi-I secured the second-highest bid, followed by Kaigah Khwar and Gehrait Gol.

Under the revenue-sharing arrangement, 80% of the proceeds will be spent on local community welfare and wildlife conservation, while the remaining 20% will be deposited in the government treasury.

The arrangement allocates the bulk of the auction income to communities in the hunting areas and conservation activities, rather than directing the entire amount to the provincial treasury.
