The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched the Global Virtual School (GVS), a public sector initiative designed to provide AI based education to students across the province, particularly those in remote and underserved areas.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation developed the program for students from grades 6 to 12. It offers virtual classrooms, live and recorded lessons, digital learning materials, assessments, progress tracking and virtual laboratory exercises.
The GVS also features an AI teacher that can explain lessons, answer questions and provide personalized learning support in Urdu, English and Pashto. Students can learn Chinese, German, Korean and Japanese through the platform.
The government will initially connect 175 public schools to the system and plans to expand the network to 500 schools by the end of this month or early next month. Officials said schools would receive the equipment needed to operate the system.
Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah said the initiative could help address teacher and school shortages and expand access to education in areas affected by security challenges and natural disasters.
Education Minister Arshad Ayub Khan said the government plans to conduct a district level survey to identify out of school children and develop policies to increase enrollment.
