The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Higher Education Department has launched a Student e-Attendance system in degree colleges across the province, allowing parents to monitor their children’s attendance through SMS alerts from home.
Provincial Minister for Higher Education and Local Government Meena Khan Afridi inaugurated the system at a ceremony held at Government Degree College on Thursday. The event was attended by representatives of Zong Telecom, the Secretary Higher Education, the Director Higher Education, teachers, and students.
The Higher Education Department also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Zong Telecom to facilitate the digital attendance system.
Speaking at the ceremony, Meena Khan Afridi said parents would regularly receive SMS updates about their children’s attendance, including details of the classes they missed.
He said the initiative was part of the department’s ongoing digital transformation efforts to modernize higher education in the province. The department has already introduced an e-transfer system and launched a ranking system for universities.
The minister also said a hard-area allowance was being introduced to support and encourage teachers serving in remote and difficult areas.
He further announced the construction of a state-of-the-art hall at Government Degree College Peshawar to provide students with modern educational facilities.
