KP Hospital Performs First Kidney Transplant Under Sehat Card

Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar has achieved another major milestone in kidney transplantation by performing its first transplant under the Sehat Card programme and its second transplant overall.

According to Express News, the hospital has completed a successful kidney transplant under Sehat Card, while this is the second transplant carried out at the facility in total.

Under the Sehat Card, the patient will receive full treatment and one year of essential medicines free of cost.

The donor, 51-year-old Hazrat Ali from Charsadda, gave one of his kidneys to his 40-year-old brother Muhammad Ilyas.

The transplant was successfully performed by transplant surgeon Dr Shahid Khan and his specialist team.

In the private sector, the treatment could have cost around Rs2 million, but the patient received the procedure free of charge under the Sehat Card.

The necessary medicines for one year after the transplant will also be provided free.

The achievement is particularly significant because the kidney transplant centre at Khyber Teaching Hospital is still under construction.

Despite this, the hospital administration used its available resources and facilities effectively to carry out the procedure successfully.

The hospital administration said the success reflects the joint efforts and commitment of the management, medical experts and relevant departments.

It also expressed gratitude to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the health department for making it possible for deserving patients to receive expensive and complex treatment free of cost through the Sehat Card.
